In this essay, Hanka van der Voet and Chet Bugter write about the possibility of a new model for fashion (education), drawing inspiration from the distributed networks of mycorrhizal fungi, as well as the symbioses of lichen. By exploring a de-hierarchised and anti-capitalist approach, centering and acknowledging decolonial and intersectional methods, they propose ways for moving away from the traditional modes of fashion education, where the focus remains on the star designer and unhealthy work environments. In the essay, they also show how these ideas are put into practice within the MA Critical Fashion Practices Learning Community.
