Hurry hurry!

Cristóbal Sciutto

Regular price $22.00 Sale

Hurry hurry! is a photobook of interlaced street photographs, culled from six years of Instagram stories starting from 2020.

The book tracks Cristóbal Sciutto's move to New York City and then back to São Paulo. The images were originally quick iPhone shots shared on social media without a particular theme in mind. It was only in seeing these images as a group, an exercise suggested by André Sztutman to study arrangement and sequencing, that the thematic became apparent.

These are photos of infrastructure and tenderness, scenes where the sacred intrudes into the urban landscape in a mutant secular form. These are photos about the inescapably material dimension of human life, of the virtual which supervenes on the physical. The title comes from Céline's Journey to the End of the Night:

Hurry hurry, cram yourself full of dreams to carry you through the life that's waiting for you outside, when you leave here, to help you last a few days more in that nightmare of things and people.

The book is composed of two interwoven booklets, a suggestion by Suspended Reason. This turns the process of reading into a combinatorial game, with different pairings arising depending on the shuffle. When closed, the book is roughly the size of a passport or modern smartphone, meant to be pocketable.
