Born in California, grew up in Singapore and Taiwan, in a constant culture clash between the east and the west, the conflict of traditional cultures helped create unexpected sparks. Thanks to my background in graphic and brand design, I loved searching for beauty in the ordinary and the unnoticed.
Taiwanese breakfast was what I miss the most being in America. I reminisced on the times as a kid buying dan bing(egg pancake) and soy milk near our house on the weekends or before class. The older I get the more I realized that everyone has an unique take on their own breakfast in different parts of the country, and they usually go into details and get specific about it. There are a great variety of breakfasts in Taiwan beyond my imagination. It is as intricate as our diverse history.
Due to the pandemic, I had the opportunity to come back to Taiwan and go on a breakfast themed road trip with my dad around the entire country. The trip helped me learn and experience different habits and lifestyle of the island regions. While I was abroad, the Asian American incidents started to escalate in the United States. I hope that through this introduction of our breakfast culture, everyone could see and appreciate other’s uniqueness and beauty. Less hate and more love.
To all the people who loves breakfast.
