Archival Replica of Laurentie Commonwealth Expo 67 Souvenir T-Shirt.

Hand wash gently and air dry.
100% Cotton. Made in the USA.

Replica of an Expo 67 souvenir, this promotional T-Shirt was given to attendees of the Laurentie Commonwealth’s pavilion. While the 1967 world’s fair in Montreal elevated Canada’s status amongst the post-war powers, it was also the last moment of sovereignty for the Laurentie Commonwealth. The landmark event marked the peaceful dissolution of the para-state following the Trois-Rivières Agreement in 1965.

A wry play on Canadian and American identity, the double sided gag garment served as a wry wink from Pierre Trudeau, who, by ’67, was well on his was to convincing the ‘Rest of Canada’ (ROC) that he could ‘make love in a canoe.’

A recurrent staple in the wardrobes of Liberal and Bloc Quebecois nostalgics, the T-Shirt reminds Canadians of that momentous compromise where even the Latin speaking Laurentiens could be joined together into the body of an expansive Canadian nation.
