Reflections on Consent is an anonymously and collectively created fanzine. Originally published in 2016 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, this second edition was produced in collaboration with Gloria Glitzer and printed by WeMakeIt.
The decision to republish the zine comes ten years after its initial release, following six years during which it was no longer available at the publishers’ table. It is unsettling that, at this point, consent has still not been socially internalized from childhood through adulthood. In this sense, the new edition becomes both a sad and defiant response to power dynamics—not only within sexual relationships, but across interpersonal and institutional bonds more broadly.
As an artistic, editorial, South American, Abya Yala, queer project based in Germany, the publishers also emphasize their conviction that “decolonial” practices are not merely theoretical frameworks, but modes of production, ways of seeing life, and ways of acting in the world. Decolonization is understood as a living, contemporary practice that takes place alongside peers and those immediately around us. For independent publishers, remaining conscious of this within the global context they inhabit is essential; otherwise, decoloniality risks becoming nothing more than a mask.
The question therefore remains: How can all forms of authority be challenged?
