Frames: Containers of Change originated from the hardcover edition, with the covers scanned and adapted for the paperback format. The book takes “containers” as a thread of archiving and reflection, exploring the relationship between holding and defining. By juxtaposing containers in both physical and metaphorical senses, the project ultimately points toward a broader container: the desk. A desk can hold materials and memories, unfold across dimensions of space, time, and emptiness, and serve as a terrain for layered stories. Different people frame their desks in different ways, forming the foundation of a visual language I call Frameology.

It is both a personal narrative and a cross-disciplinary research method. Maps serve as carriers through which I transform tangible and intangible dimensions into a visualized design language, producing contour maps, time-event maps, frequency maps, and behavioral maps. The book features an in-depth study of my grandfather’s desk and, inspired by my grandmother’s braided white hair, culminates in a hand-sewn, desk-sized topographic map of 15 layers-”185 hours, 15 layers, 50% visibility.” From the perspective of dependent origination and emptiness, seemingly unrelated containers overlap and touch, weaving countless stories that extend across different spaces and hands.
