After School brings together autobiography, photographs, collage, and archival documents to tell the story of my family’s struggle to run Futurelink, a 補習班, or after school program, in the San Gabriel Valley, CA. More broadly, it explores the complex role of after schools (known as cram schools) in Asian American enclaves, as they operate simultaneously as spaces of community, care, and control.
