Rehoming DunDun

Regular price $46.00 Sale

DunDuns 墩墩 are fabric stools crafted by the villagers of Dameng, made from abandoned heat insulation foam from the construction site where their villages used to be. Due to the government’s urban planning reforms, the villagers lost not only their land and homes, but also their way of life. The new architectural space fragmented the close-knit bonds between villagers. In reaction, the villagers made DunDun, as a subtle resistance. Carrying DunDun, walking, sitting on it, and chatting with old friends in the new neighborhood, villagers try to maintain their previous life rhymes. In the near future, the traces of their living experiences could be erased as the concrete rises around them.

Each zine set is unique and aims to tell the story of displaced Dameng villagers’ loss due to urbanization policy in China. Hand binding with recycled fabric from curtains, pillowcases, bed sheets, and sofa coverings, DunDun’s Pack celebrates DunDun’s materiality and specialty.

*Each zine set includes a handmade bag crafted from assorted fabric, shipped out randomly for online orders.
