Penultimate Autumn / Winter 2024 "I HAVE FOUR LEGS BUT NO FEET"

Drawing inspiration from the enigmatic riddle, the collection pays homage to the ubiquitous yet often overlooked chair-a symbol of both practicality and artistic expression. Drawing inspiration from German photographer Michael Wolf's 'Bastard Chairs' series, which documents the DIY chairs found in the streets of Hong Kong. Those chairs were repeatedly repaired with any available materials that people can find in daily life. Designer Xiang, artfully translates the raw and poetic essence of these discarded seats into a mesmerizing array of designs.

The collection features a range of chair-inspired silhouettes, including the bamboo stool, 90s folding chair, rattan armchair, and the most common scene people would see in China, many plastic chairs piled up at Do poi dang (a type of open-air food stall), meticulously recreated to evoke nostalgia and curiosity. Accessories reminiscent of a carpenter's workshop, including feather dusters, chains, mini screwdrivers, and nails, add a touch of authenticity and intrigue to each ensemble.

This collection is honored to collaborate with Kvadrat, a global leader in interior design innovation established in Denmark in 1968.

The Lookbook is photographed by Penultimate's longtime collaborator photographer Feng Li around Xiang's Neighborhood, a tale of sitting in Shanghai.
