The Terminal Investment hypothesis is an evolutionary biology theory proposing that an organism will increase its reproductive effort when its path to future survival and reproduction declines. As it diverts all of its resources into producing seeds and fruits, a tree’s branches can break due to overwhelming abundance. The parent organism prioritizes maximizing its chances of passing on genes before death, even if the effort physically destroys it. |

Gogo Graham (b.1990, San Jose, California) is a visual artist and fashion designer who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She received her BS in Textiles from the University of Texas at Austin in 2012. Graham's narrative-driven wearable sculptures, constructed using found, discarded and recycled textile materials, merge traditional folklore and grotesque fantasy with the mundanity of the everyday. Her clothing practice explores the multiple uses of garments including: protection from the elements, adornment, signifiers of identity, modesty and immodesty that act as physical and spiritual barriers that exist between the body and the outside world. |
