"夜咄 Night Chat" Winter Solstice 冬至/乃東生 Tea Gathering is curated by two artists Keiko Taniguchi & Eri Shoji with a deep connection to the world of tea.
On December 21st, 2023 at Bungee Space, the event is designed to celebrate the passing year and indulge in extended conversations during the longest winter night. Keiko Taniguchi, a Urasenke tea ceremony practitioner since 2016, is a bridge between tea culture and art. Her accessible tea performances are inspired by her childhood memories, such as summer festivals and community events. Her work aims to preserve and expand tea culture and celebrate daily life and conversations within the community. |
Eri Shoji has been producing a series of Happenings “Butsu Butsu” in and around New York City and Los Angeles for the past decade. Butsu Butsu is an interactive installation series to share conversations and thoughts with the community through Shoji’s interpretation of tea culture. Shoji sees the ritual of tea ceremony as a gift exchange through the communal act, it is in the interactions of the audiences which completes the work. For 夜咄 night chat, Shoji joins Taniguchi as a co-host, preparing seasonal dishes paired with Taniguchi’s tea selections. |
