冰城热镇 Break City Melt Town invites you to join a conversation with artist Lu Zhang, Gong Press co-publisher Qianfan Gu, and Bungee Space founder Shisi Huang, as they delve into Lu’s new book, Lu Zhang ≈ HuaiErDeMan (Wildman) Clab. They will explore the creative process behind the book’s formation, the ideas embedded in its diverse materials—such as notes, images, ceramics—and the symbolic use of fire. The discussion will also examine how the making of the book reflects the public dimension of Lu’s artistic project.

Lu Zhang ≈ HuaiErDeMan (Wildman) Clab, Special Limited Edition of 15 + 5A.P., published by Gong Press, 2024. 		Published in 2024 by Gong Press, Lu Zhang ≈ HuaiErDeMan (Wildman) Clab,《张璐≈怀尔德曼俱乐室》, is both an archive and a reflection on artist Lu Zhang’s public-engaged projects from 2017 to 2023. Within its pages is a collection of materials that trace the evolution of her practice, including documentation of her situationist ceramics, research notes, ephemera, reading references, visual poems, and contributions from her father in the form of drawings and calligraphy.

Each publication contains one ceramic character from HuaiErDeMan Clab’s manifesto. For every public presentation, Lu selects a rearranged poem from the manifesto and crafts a site-specific message. For Bungee Space, the message reads:



冰城热镇重言和
灵材形类精技实



在一个充满极端的城市里，黎明在共同的土地上破晓。直至暮色降临，以求和解：缥缈的物质性，形式与其影子的姿态，技艺与其偶然性，道德与混沌的文化。It loosely translates as “In a city of extremes, days break over common ground. Left there till dark to reconcile: ethereal materiality, forms and their shadow gestures, technique and its accidents, cultures of morality and chaos.”

Presented in a handcrafted ceramic box, this special limited edition includes a matchstick to ignite a ceramic slab, unveiling artist Lu Zhang’s manifesto poem.

The publication comes in two editions, and both make the project a literal art piece in itself –

Special Limited Edition:
Presented in a handcrafted ceramic box and accompanied by a matchstick to ignite a ceramic slab, revealing the artist’s manifesto poem.



Limited Edition:
Each copy is accompanied by a hand-made ceramic piece inscribed with a hand-written character by the artist.
